Anna is ONE!

We've been through a lot these past few months. Selling our house, selling most of our stuff, packing, driving to Alaska via Vancouver Island, the 24 hour BC ferry ride, up the Cassiar Hwy, through Skagway, into Alaska.

Through it all the kids have been amazing, really. The drive up the highway was 2 weeks of travelling and they both did so well. Thor especially -- he was so patient and had lots of fun camping. Anna did well too, although riding in the car was harder for her. Luckily she slept a lot of the time.
Since we got to Soldotna we've been staying at Grandma Margie's river cabin. It's been really nice to have a place of our own. And now we've started setnetting with the Johnson's down near Clam Gulch, so we go back and forth a lot. And Thor and Anna play on the beach and eat sand, and get dirty, and run around on the rocks and mud. Thor can tell the difference between a loader and a backhoe and he's seen more king salmon than a local eagle! :) They both love it down there, although it is a little hard to keep them out of everyone's way.
Anna is really growing into a little toddler. She's finally started eating more food just in the past week. Before that, before age 1, she barely wanted any solids at all. She's nearly running, and loves to climb stairs. She also just figured out how to throw things in the past couple days! She claps, waves, blows kisses, drinks out of a sippy cup, and understands a LOT of words and phrases. Her favorite things to do are to go outside, nurse, play in the sand, crawl in the wagon, watch birds!, and play hide and seek. Oh, and she loves to go up and down stairs. No words yet, but that's not surprising. She babbles a lot and will repeat things like "ba ba ba ba" and "ma ma ma".
Thor is so hilarious and cute as usual. He's very very verbal. He is looking more like a little boy every day. He loves playing with older kids and the other day while he was trying to scale some boulders at the fish site I yelled at him to get off, and he burst into tears and insisted, "MAMA! I'm OLDER now! I'm OLDER!" Gosh, I felt bad for him! He so badly wants to do what other kids do...
Seems like things are getting a little easier for us with having two kids. I feel more patient, have less issues with feeling overwhelmed (though I do at times when I have them both alone for a long period of time). Anna still nurses at night some, and has been having some nights of extreme fussiness and crying. She is getting her molars, though.
Overall, things are going well and I am glad to be living in Homer. I think it will be great for the kids, too.
