Thor 25 months, Anna 4 months

Four months with my two little ones:

I alternate between intense love and feelings of being intensely overwhelmed. One day I'm thinking, "Gosh, I can't wait to have three beauties." And the next day I'm thinking, "Boy it was nice when I didn't have any kids." One day I feel so competent as a mother -- on top of the world, feeling proud of the job I'm doing ("Look at me," I think when I actually manage to go shopping with two happy babies, "I can do it!"). The next day all I can think about is timing everything so that they both sleep at the same time and I can veg out in front of the computer for an hour. It's all I can do to keep them both in clean diapers and remember to feed Thor something (dark chocolate will do...).

We hit an especially low few days recently when Anna came down with thrush. It's a yeast infection of the mouth, and really common in babies. Thor never had it. But I knew right away when I noticed white patches in Anna's mouth that she had it. Enter excruciatingly painful nursing for several days. Let's see... I can describe it like her mouth was made of sandpaper, or perhaps glass. Yikes. The one interesting thing that came out of it is that Thor quit nursing. Well, I shouldn't speak too soon because it's only been 5 days. The pain I was in seemed to disturb him, so he didn't nurse. The last time he did I winced in pain and nearly cried, and he started crying and stopped nursing! Strangely sweet, I guess. He did not want to hurt me. It is sort of bittersweet, since the nursing relationship is very dear, but both Thor and I were ready to wean.

Anna recently had her four month doctor checkup and she's healthy (besides the thrush which is almost gone) and 16lbs 14 oz. She's 27 inches long. The size of an average 9 month old! She's 10 oz. heavier than Thor was at 4 months but an inch shorter. She likes to jump in the jumpy thing and she's figuring out she has a voice. She screeches like a banshee sometimes!! She's becoming very aware. She follows voices and she follows the fish in the tank. She smiles at Thor and is starting to play with and chew on toys. So cute!!

Thor says 3-4 word phrases now. He has just figured out how to use the word "it" as in "Hold it!" "Ride it!" He also really loves to play with his friends who we meet up with once or twice a week.

Well, crying baby! Will update more later! :)
